Individualised Training

Our Approach

We work closely with our clients to ensure that the courses and programmes are tailored around the client’s needs. We use pre-course questionnaires to focus on the business needs of participants. Pre-course activities ensure that participants are familiar with the theoretical elements. During our courses we foster active participation, provide feedback and give participants ample opportunity to practice the acquired skills. We continuously adjust our courses in line with the feedback received from our clients. We encourage participants to continue the learning process through discussions, information sharing and post-course tutorials.

To ensure the needs of our clients drive our programmes and courses we follow a five-phased approach.

1. Preparation

The client provides examples of different types of documents. In addition the client makes guidelines, style guides or any other relevant information available. Based on the information received we structure the programme/course and adapt the course material to ensure that they reflect the client’s requirements.

2. Design

This phase consists of a thorough analysis of the client’s documents. Subsequently we provide feedback and discuss the analysis results with the relevant business areas. Then CFC proposes an outline for a writing course/programme and asks for the client’s agreement for the outline.

3. Needs Analysis

This phase consists of submitting an unedited example of own text, a pre-course questionnaire and pre-course reading.

Firstly, participants need to submit unedited samples of their own text prior to the course to aid course preparation. This ensures that the consultant is familiar with the writing skills of the individual participants and that the course material is directly related to participants’ own work. The consultant also provides feedback on the individual samples during the course.

Secondly, participants complete a pre-course questionnaire to ensure the courses address the needs of the participants.

Thirdly, participants receive pre-course reading to deal with some of the theoretical components of the course.

4. Delivery

To enhance the learning experience CFC integrates the examples from the client (submitted in Phase 1) in the course material. The client gets the opportunity to submit additional material that can be used in the course material. During the course all topics are followed by practical exercises, group and team work, comments, feedback and ample opportunity to apply the acquired skills to participants’ own text.

5. Follow-up

The phase consists of electronic feedback. Participants have the opportunity to submit text to the consultant, who will provide detailed feedback on all aspects of the text. Participants can use the comments to enhance their own drafting skills by re-organising and redrafting the relevant parts of their text. At the end of the follow-up session participants will be able to list the areas where the principles of good writing were applied and to identify and enhance areas where they still need to improve.
